Ten-month scholarships are available in the six Institutes of Aix-Marseille, Loire Valley, Lyon, Montpellier, Nantes, and Paris under the French Institutes for Advanced Study (FIAS) Fellowship Program. High caliber foreign researchers and scientists are encouraged to apply, especially in the social sciences and humanities (SSH). The Fellows will profit from the assistance and favorable scientific atmosphere provided by the IAS, which is distinguished by an interdisciplinary fellows cohort and a tight connection to the potential for local research. The fellows will have complete autonomy over how they arrange their work and carry out their research.

French Institutes for Advanced Study Fellowship 2025 Eligibility Requirements

  • Doctorate degree holders must have two years of full-time research experience post-graduation.
  • Master’s degree holders with six years of full-time research experience can apply.
  • Transnational MSCA mobility requirement: Researchers must not have lived or conducted primary activity in France for more than 12 months in the three years prior to the call deadline.
  • All humanities and social sciences are welcome.
  • Application forms and papers must be submitted online. Late or incomplete applications are not accepted.

  • For Paris IAS, Le Studium, Collegium de Lyon, MAK’IT, a letter of interest or support from the local scientific partner is required.
  • Maximum of two recommendation letters is not required.
